About SagWas

SagWas is an audio and communication app (AAC – Augmentative and Alternative Communication) for iPad. Recordings, pictograms, photos and text-to-speech can be combined into simple communication boards. Available in eight languages.

Getting Started

Button Mode

A large speak button fills the screen. Hold for 3 seconds to start recording, tap to play. Use the track switcher to switch between up to 9 tracks.

TalkPad Mode

A grid of tiles across multiple pages. Each tile can hold audio, video, a photo, an ARASAAC symbol and a text label (with text-to-speech).

Open Settings

Tap the gear icon in the top right. If a PIN is set, enter it. From there you can configure the number of tracks, colors, photos, languages and TalkPad pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I record a new voice message?

In Button Mode, press and hold the big button for 3 seconds. A countdown appears, then recording starts. Release to stop. Maximum length: 2 minutes per track.

How do I share a track or a page?

In Settings tap "Share". You will receive a 6-digit Share-ID. On the target device, enter it under "Receive" – the content is synced via Apple iCloud (CloudKit). When offline, the upload is queued and sent automatically later.

Why does the text-to-speech voice sound robotic?

iOS ships only compact voices for some languages. Under iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices you can download a high-quality voice. SagWas will use it automatically.

The pictogram search shows no results.

The pictogram search uses the ARASAAC API and requires an internet connection. Check your connection and try different search terms.

I forgot my PIN.

Uninstall and reinstall the app. Warning: this will delete all local recordings. Back up tracks or pages via the Share function first.

Does SagWas work on iPhone?

Yes, SagWas runs on iPhone and iPad from iOS 17. The app is optimized for iPad (portrait + landscape). On iPhone, only portrait mode is supported.

How do I import an audio file?

In a track's settings tap "Import audio", pick an .mp3/.m4a/.wav from the Files app, and optionally set start and end points using the trim editor.

What data does the app collect?

None. SagWas stores all recordings locally. Shared content goes exclusively through your own iCloud account. There is no tracking, no ads, no analytics.
